Gluing initial data sets for general relativity.
We establish an optimal gluing construction for general relativistic initial data sets. The construction is optimal in two distinct ways. First, it applies to generic initial data sets and the required (generically satisfied) hypotheses are geometrically and physically natural. Second, the construction is completely local in the sense that the initial data is left unaltered on the complement of...
متن کاملInitial data for fluid bodies in general relativity
We show that there exist asymptotically flat almost-smooth initial data for Einstein-perfect fluid’s equation that represent an isolated liquid-type body. By liquid-type body we mean that the fluid energy density has compact support and takes a strictly positive constant value at its boundary. By almost-smooth we mean that all initial data fields are smooth everywhere on the initial hypersurfac...
متن کاملConstruction of N-body Time-symmetric Initial Data Sets in General Relativity
Abstract. Given a collection of N asymptotically Euclidean ends with zero scalar curvature, we construct a Riemannian manifold with zero scalar curvature and one asymptotically Euclidean end, whose boundary has a neighborhood isometric to the disjoint union of a specified collection of sub-regions of the given ends. An application is the construction of time-symmetric solutions of the constrain...
متن کاملInitial Data for Numerical Relativity
Initial data are the starting point for any numerical simulation. In the case of numerical relativity, Einstein's equations constrain our choices of these initial data. We will examine several of the formalisms used for specifying Cauchy initial data in the 3 + 1 decomposition of Einstein's equations. We will then explore how these formalisms have been used in constructing initial data for spac...
متن کاملA Penrose-Like Inequality for General Initial Data Sets
We establish a Penrose-Like Inequality for general (not necessarily time symmetric) initial data sets of the Einstein equations which satisfy the dominant energy condition. More precisely, it is shown that the ADM energy is bounded below by an expression which is proportional to the square root of the area of the outermost future (or past) apparent horizon.
